Play or work?

We had a very fun/busy working weekend in IF with my family. My Mom and Dad are right in the middle of a MAJOR remodel so Mike volunteered to do all the plaster work on the walls and ceilings in both upstairs bathrooms and 2 rooms over the weekend. I think he was regretting being so nice by the end of it. We took before pics but I want to get some after pics before I post them. I was also busy painting both bathrooms and priming. It was soo fun! I love painting!

We had a lot of fun spending time with my Mom and Dad and the Thompson's. My sister Aimee is amazingly talented at finding silly ways to entertain kids, I love it! BTW she used to do it with me growing up too!

Nat painted BOTH Grandpa and Grandma's nails:

But the most important thing of the weekend:

Yep Will is OFFICIALLY walking! I think trying to keep up with his cousins helped him to realize just how much easier it is to walk!

Into the breach....

After a torrential weekend of mud, paint and primer I finally got to play and be with my wife and son. I did truly enjoy working on Jamie's parent's house doing the work I used to do 'back in the day' however I missed my little family. So, as the diligently working salesman that I am, I decided it was time to stay home from work on Tuesday. Boy was it worth it! I had the best time playing with Will, chasing Jamie around the house, going grocery shopping, it was AWESOME! Jamie and I even watched trashy reality TV together last night!

Will, feeling as though he had missed out on some of the family fun, decided to get up all throughout the late night/early morning. This resulted in me pretending to be a hero and put him back to sleep. As such I was VERY sleepy this morning. Will came in to bed with us in the morning after Jamie fed him breakfast and we tried to get him to nap; it didn't work. He flailed about kicking, hitting us (he used Milton as a hammer on daddy's head) and had a great time. I was tempted to play hooky once again, but then my desire to one day retire overtook my laziness; by a very thin margin mind you! So as I got ready he followed me about, watching me, playing in the closet, helping knock my shoes off onto the floor. Finally as I got to the garage he did his little walk up to me and grabbed on to my legs. He saw me grab the keys and open the door and he started begging to be held. As the garage door opened he became very VERY sad and then the unthinkable happened. The door closed and dad went to the car. Tears immediately pored down his face and he began to cry. Jamie opened the door to show him everything was just fine... (for who?). So this is how I drove to work... My son's tear stained face wandering in the back of my mind as I wondered if I really needed to go to work today, if it was really necessary, why I couldn't just work from home everyday. The great tragedy is for the next 5-10 years I am going to be working just about the hardest I can for this mythical dream of being able to retire and be there for my kids when they are older. The reality; however, is at 10-12 years old my hero's mantle will fall; dad's cool black civic won't be so cool and playing trains won't be fun with dad anymore. Alas that is the price I must pay for the great honor of fatherhood; to charge in like Henry V's men, "unto the breach, dear friends, once more" to the world of finance to earn a living so that I may enjoy the serene moments of being a father and husband. To watch my son's face at the taste of his first sugar high, to see him scream for joy when he figures our a new toy, and to watch peace fall upon my wife as she fades into the realms of sleep untouched by the demands of this world. Ok, so it's a small price, guess I am lazier than I thought!

~Post Meltdown~

Ha ha yes I made it through my 26 birthday! I just cant help but be flooded with a million emotions from last year. Sorry if it made you guys feel awkward, maybe that's why hardly anyone is commenting..............:)

So my birthday was as fabulous as ever because I got everything I wanted! Okay not tons of gifts like you all are thinking (come on guys I am not THAT spoiled) but I was so happy to spend the day doing things I wanted!

The day consisted of finishing my garden:And then spending the evening with Mike going shopping (ha ha I know right?) where I picked out my gift, then had them gift wrap it, and then acted surprised when I opened it. It was hilarious. We grabbed my favorite desert at Market Street Creme Brulee while we waited for some fabulous sushi at Takashi. Did I mention my new found LOVE of Sushi? I know its only taken Mike 5 years to get me to really LOVE it but now I can say I am officially hooked!

Will has been keeping my VERY busy this past week. He figured out how to get INTO Bella's kennel and he thinks it is the best place ever to be.
Don't worry Grandma B, I keep Bella's kennel really clean and spray it with Lysol regularly :)

Will is also getting really really close to walking. He is such a stubborn little kid! He will walk from the window to the bed, and will sometimes just stand up and start walking but he still wont just walk ALL the time. What a little stink. Its kinda like how he army crawled FOREVER and then realized that regular crawling was a lot easier. Too funny!

He has also decided that napping and sleeping at night is for babies, not him. Did I mention he was stubborn? But at least he is such an adorable little man that makes it all worth it!

Mid-Twenties Crisis

Its true, as I am vastly approaching the downward slope of the 20's, I feel completely overwhelmed and truly wonder where 25 went? I don't feel old or anything like that, it just really feels like I should be turning 25 again. I am flooded with a million emotions as I remember the last year and especially this time last year. We got to bring little Will home on May 17 from the NICU last year and it was the best 1 day late birthday present ever! But it doesn't really seem like I even had a birthday last year. I have also been dealing with a lot of raw emotions reliving the memories of last year. Its a weird emotional state to be in. For some reason all the feelings are very near the surface again (I think I am in for a rough couple months then :). I guess it is just to help keep us humble and to remind us of the wonderful blessing it is to have little Will with us. He is such an amazing little kiddo! He is growing up way too fast and I wonder where my little baby went? I love it though and am so happy to have him healthy and tough.

Will still LOVES Milton!

Jamie's Number One FEAR in Life

MOTHS! They completely FREAK me out and look what I woke up to the other morning:It was GIGANTIC! At least it was on the outside of the screen though. ICKY!

William's 1st Birthday

It has finally sunk in that baby Will is official 1 year old. I can't believe it! It just almost doesn't seem possible. We are so fortunate to have such good family and friends that have been so supportive of our first year with Will. WE LOVE YOU! It's been such a rewarding year for us and we are so grateful to have made it through and have learned so much as a family. Life is soo precious and we are so lucky to have little Will apart of our lives.

We had so much fun this weekend hosting Will's first birthday party! I love parties and had so much fun planning and preparing all the little details. Will had a Pirate themed party complete with pirate balloons, pirate suckers, and a pirate cake. Soo much fun! We were so overwhelmed by the support we received and were so thankful that so many friends and family were able to make it! Enjoy a few pics of our special day!

Will LOVED his Strawberry Shortcake! I know not traditional but that's how we are :)
The whole little Fam!
Will & Jess

Will and Ellie

And my favorite pic of Will and Ty in their matching train jammies but neither one would sit still!

Will is in HEAVEN with all his new toys! Thanks guys!

And lastly what a wonderful way to spend Mothers Day weekend, with my Mom! She is such an amazing example to me and I am so grateful to have had her growing up. She is the most giving and generous person I know and would truly do anything for her kids or grand kids. When Will was sick, she was in the car before I could even ask her to come and has always been there when I needed her. She knows how to have fun, laugh at life, and keep pushing through life when things gets rough. The phrase "give you the shirt off her back" is an understatement when it comes to my mom. I have never met such a selfless, giving, and compassionate person as my Mom. She is truly an amazing mother and example to me! We love you Grandma B!

First of Many to Come

Will just got his first bloody nose a few minutes ago :( So sad! He is still trying to get brave and walk on his own(I really don't know who he gets his stubbornness from :) and ended up face planting it into Bella's kennel. It was so sad! He only cried for a minute though and luckily it didn't bleed much.As you know I cut Will's hair every few weeks and was surprised this morning to cut off all this hair!!!!
It definitely pays to have a hair dresser as a Mommy
to get that hair growing!

Hey ya'all! I am just trying to decide how much food we need for Saturday so if you wouldn't mind RSVPing again (or for the first time, hehe) that would be lovely! Also be sure you bring your own meat if you would like something besides burgers or dogs.

Can't wait to see everyone Saturday!

Number One Reason I Love My Hubby

He carries on my PINK luggage on business trips :)
Have fun in Boston babe!
