Today we celebrated Will's 2nd Birthday! I cant believe my handsome little boy is already 2, where has the time gone?! I cant hardly remember my life without him anymore and I am so grateful I get to be his Mommy. Having William in our lives is such a blessing and we still don't take one day for granted with our little boy. I read back through my journal from Will's delivery and it was so emotional remembering all the feelings we experienced in those first scary days.

o Happy Birthday William Garrett Scott!!! Today Mommy’s little guy decided he was ready to brave this world and that he wanted out, NOW. I woke up at 3:15am and got up to head into the bathroom when oopps, I thought I had an accident. I didn’t think much of it and just cleaned up and headed back to bed. Then at around 4:30am same thing. I was concerned my water broke but pretty much kept talking myself out of. The more I moved the more I leaked though. I think Bella was in tune because she started running around like crazy so I decided to take her potty. I let her out and Mike was asleep on the couch (he had been up all night studying) and I decided to wake him up and get his opinion. I woke him up and said I thought my water had broken and asked him to get up and search online and see what he could find. He started looking and I started reading through my books looking for the signs. I had another leak and stood up from the bed to see a reddish discharge and Mike said that we better go to the hospital. I called Dr. Voss’ office and they paged the Dr. on call because Dr. Voss is on vacation. He said we had better head in to the hospital just to see what was going on.
o On the way to the hospital I was pretty upset and couldn't believe this was happening. We got to the hospital and headed up to the Labor and Delivery on the 4th floor at LDS hospital at around 5:45am. They immediately took me in and started checking things out. During the exam they confirmed that my water had broken and that we were going to have a baby, today. I was so nervous and said it was too early but there was nothing we could do, he was coming. The nurse assured us things would be okay. I was having contractions but couldn’t feel them so we were already far on our way. Michol and I sat there dumbstruck as they got my IV started and giving me a penicillin drip since I hadn’t had some test done that they usually do at around 35-36 weeks. We just kept saying we couldn’t believe this was happening. I kept saying I didn’t want him to come early, not in May, but April holy cow we weren’t expecting this. Michol and I feel so unprepared and just can’t believe this is real. They decided to observe me for an hour or so to see if my contractions would start to progress on their own. At about 9am they started me on Pitosin because I still wasn’t feeling my contractions. I labored till about 11:30am on my own but the more intense it got the harder it was to manage. After discovering I still wasn’t dilating, an epidural didn’t sound so bad after all. I think Mike was very relieved, and so was I. After the medicine kicked in I decided to get as much sleep as I could. I slept and slept and tried not to get too impatient. Around 2pm they checked again and I was only dilated to a 1 so they kicked the pitosin way up. At about 3:30 they checked me again and could believe it, I was dilated to 9! I could sense the panic as nurses realized he was coming and he was coming soon.
o They paged Dr Chapa on call for Dr Voss and got set up for delivery. The pressure was so intense and it was so hard to wait and not push. Finally at around 3:45 the Dr arrived and I was able to start pushing. It was so intense and although I was numb I can’t believe how much I could feel the pressure. I was so discouraged because the Dr was saying he needed the forcepts and I just kept pushing. I remember saying that I couldn’t do it and my nurse was awesome and kept reassuring me that I could. I also remember saying to just get the baby out of me, I was so frustrated. His little head was getting stuck and wouldn't quite fit so the Dr gave me a small episiotomy with two snips so we could get the baby out of stress and get him out. I was so relived, it worked! At 4:14PM William Garrett Scott weighing 6 lbs 2 ounces and measuring 19 ½ inches long joined our little family. Mike cut the cord and they set my little guy on my tummy and I just couldn’t believe it. He is so tiny and perfect. Will was having a difficult time breathing so they took him and started checking him out. He was doing ok so they let us keep him for a bit. I was so tired I almost couldn’t keep my eyes open to look at him. He has dark hair and lots of it! He also appears to have my nose and that’s about all we can tell right now.
o The nurse decided to take Will back to the nursery so they could give him a bath and observe him to make sure his breathing was okay. They left and I tried to sleep. They decided to move Will to the NICU and hook him up to some monitors and give him oxygen. Mike was upset and I saw him cry for the first time. Not exactly how I wanted to see him cry. He was so upset he couldn’t even talk and we tried to say a prayer together but we sat in silence. We were both praying silently and felt the spirit so strong. The doctors are not sure if Will just has premature lungs or possibly namonia. Either way he needs to get stronger. It is scary. Our little guy needs to be strong. I am really lucky to feel a sense of peace through all of this that he will be ok. Hopefully it is just a matter of time. I just don’t think it is going to be really easy to leave him here for a few weeks. I love him so much and I don’t want him to be alone.
I love our silly tradition of going back to the hospital. It always seems to ground us as a family and remind how lucky we are and how grateful we are for Will being here. He is such a sweet little boy and has changed my life forever. I LOVE being his Mommy, I cant imagine doing anything else in my life :).
